Kareckaite (126) vs. Melissa
Gatto (126)

Round 1

Women’s flyweights light the fuse at UFC Vegas 122, as Lithuania’s
Kareckaite (6-2-1, 1-2 UFC) squares off with Brazil’s Gatto (9-3-2,
3-3 UFC) at 125 pounds. Chris Tognoni administers the law and
order. The customary glove touch gets them started. Gatto paws with
her jab, flirts with an overhand right and sneaks in an inside leg
kick. Kareckaite backs up the Brazilian with a one-two and leans
into the clinch along the fence. Short knees to the body from
Gatto. Kareckaite holding position but not doing much with it. She
scores with an elbow and keeps Gatto pinned to the cage. They
separate. Gatto re-engages the clinch and works toward a trip.
Kareckaite keeps her balance initially, then grabs the fence and
lands on top. Tognoni stops the action and docks the Lithuanian a
point, then restarts them. They trade punches before Kareckaite
drives back into the clinch. Gatto turns her into the fence and
lands an elbow. They trade knees to the body. Two minutes to go.
Gatto shoots on the hips and tries for a takedown but winds up on
the bottom. Kareckaite sets up in full guard, and the action
stalls. Gatto hunts for an armbar but does not have the requisite
space. Kareckaite stays on top through the end of the round.

two women. Kareckaite doubles up on the left hook. Gatto clinches,
whiffs on a trip, resets and clinches again. She continues to beat
Kareckaite to the punch. Gatto dives in and eats a left hook, then
misses on a spinning attack. Kareckaite pops her with a head kick.

from Kareckaite, who follows with a one two. Gatto misfires on a
trip and winds up on the bottom. Kareckaite sets up in full guard,
then stands and kicks at the legs. Less than a minute to go in
another relatively uneventful round. Kareckaite scores with more
kicks before Tognoni restarts the match on the feet. Sharp left
hand from Kareckaite, who backs it up with a multi-punch volley.
Gatto clinches to close out the round.

Round 1

Action at UFC Vegas 122 now shifts to the women’s bantamweight
division, where Brazil’s Pereira (7-1, 1-1 UFC) toes the line
against Russia’s Zheleznyakova (10-3, 2-2 UFC) at 135 pounds. Jason
Herzog adjudicates matters and beckons the two combatants forward.
Zheleznyakova takes the center. Sharp one-two from Pereira. The
Russian answers with a multi-punch burst of her own. Pereira lands
a side kick to the body, circles on the outside and unleashes both
hands. She charges forward behind power punches, eats some on the
return and clinches. Knees to the body ensue. Pereira secures the
takedown and lands in half guard. She stays glued to the Russian
but fails to get off much offense, outside of a few shoulder
strikes. Two minutes to go. Action stalls. Pereira climbs to full
mount and drops elbows and punches, then advances to the back
before returning to mount. Heavy hips from the Brazilian, who lands
more punches and elbows to close the round, opening a serious cut
in the process. Zheleznyakova, having been examined by the cageside
physician, tells Herzog she does not desire to continue.

Round 1

American heavyweights keep the UFC Vegas 122 line moving, as Frye
(6-1, 0-1 UFC) confronts the unbeaten Harris (6-0, 1-0 UFC) at 265
pounds. The venerable Herb Dean polices the proceedings. Away they
go. Oblique kick to the thigh from Frye. Harris answers with a
one-two and a leg kick. He follows with a jab and two more leg
kicks. Harris connects with an overhand right. Frye returns fire,
then circles on the outside. Harris continues to work on the lead
leg with kicks and stays busy with jabs and one-twos upstairs. He
punches into the clinch and separates. Frye sneaks in a jab and a
right cross. Halfway home in this round. Frye sticks him with a
right hand and sends him into a state of retreat. Frye lands a left

Armenia’s Shahbazyan (12-5, 0-1 UFC) to the test at 170 pounds.
Tognoni draws the officiating assignment. Price steps into an
overhand right, sheds a guillotine, lands some ground-and-pound and
moves to the clinch. He unleashes a few foot stomps. Shahbazyan
goes for a takedown but winds up in bottom position. The
hyperaggressive Price works in half guard, cuts loose with elbows
and swarms with punches. He postures above Shahbazyan and lands
standing-to-grown punches from both hands. Price continues to dole
out punishment until Tognoni decides to intervene.

his opponent. Bonfim flicks out three jabs, then eats a body kick

feet, then takes a knee. More knees to the leg from Prado, who
stays glued to the Brazilian and racks up easy points. Bonfim gets
to his feet, only to be taken down again. Prado operates inside

as Walker (7-3, 1-3 UFC) sets his sights on Meerschaert (37-22,
12-14 UFC) at 185 pounds. Dean presides over the contest. They
touch gloves and get down to business. Walker pressures from the
outside, feints with his lead hand, eats a jab and clinches. He
lands an elbow on the break. Meerschaert circles and evades. They
clinch again. A Meerschaert knee strays south of the border and
results in a pause to the action. Dean restarts them. Walker paws
