San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been ruled out of Sunday’s massive showdown with the Seattle Seahawks with a hamstring injury.
The 49ers were trailing 23-21 when Samuel took a handoff to the left side of the field. But in the middle of the run, Samuel appeared to get punched in his right leg by a Seahawks defender trying to tackle him. While the hit didn’t seem major, it clearly impacted Samuel, who crumpled to the turf and fumbled the ball from his left hand. Seattle recovered the fumble and converted it into a field goal to push their lead to five.

Samuel gingerly limped off of the field under his own power, but the team quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game with the injury. He finished Sunday’s game with four total offensive touches, with two carries for four yards (including the fumble) and two catches for 21 yards. He was also the team’s kick returner and had two returns for 50 yards.
Samuel’s injury is the latest the 49ers have suffered at the wide receiver position. San Francisco has lost Ricky Pearsall (knee) for the season, De’Zhaun Stribling (ankle) for multiple months and Demarcus Robinson (ankle) for several weeks. Mike Evans is also playing through a serious rib injury, which the Fox broadcast said on Sunday was two broken ribs. Another wide receiver, Jacob Cowing, injured his ankle a few plays after Samuel’s injury and is questionable to return.
The 49ers trail the Seahawks 26-21 after three quarters.
