Briscoe Edges Christopher Bell in Incredible Finish
Chase Briscoe delivered one of the most dramatic victories of the NASCAR Cup Series season Sunday, holding off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell to win the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Briscoe crossed the finish line just 0.029 seconds ahead of Bell, earning a thrilling victory in a race that came down to the final few feet. It was the closest Cup Series finish of the 2026 season.
The victory capped an intense afternoon of racing as NASCAR returned to Charlotte’s oval for its fall playoff race. Briscoe’s No. 19 Toyota survived a chaotic final lap, contact with Bell and pressure from one of the fastest cars in the field to secure the win.
Teammates Battle to the Finish
Bell looked ready to steal the victory in the closing moments. Driving the No. 20 Toyota, he charged toward Briscoe on the final lap and made a move to the inside entering the final corner.
Briscoe held the outside line while Bell tried to complete the pass. The two teammates made contact exiting Turn 4, but both drivers kept control of their cars and raced toward the checkered flag.
Briscoe managed to stay just ahead, crossing the line by a razor thin margin. The finish marked the second-closest Cup Series finish in Charlotte history, coming close to the record set in the 2005 Coca-Cola 600.
Bell had a strong afternoon of his own, leading 93 laps and collecting valuable stage points. Despite falling just short of victory, his performance helped him gain ground in the championship battle.
Strong Runs Throughout the Field
Ryan Blaney finished third, followed by Josh Berry in fourth and Denny Hamlin in fifth. Kyle Larson, who led a race high 97 laps, finished sixth after spending much of the afternoon near the front.
The race featured 11 lead changes among five drivers and six cautions, keeping teams busy throughout the 267 lap event.
Briscoe Builds Momentum
For Briscoe, the Charlotte victory provides a major boost as the championship fight intensifies. Winning a race this close against a teammate makes the achievement even more impressive, especially with Bell pushing him all the way to the finish.
With the Cup Series heading to Phoenix Raceway next, Briscoe has given himself and Joe Gibbs Racing plenty to celebrate. Sunday’s finish will be remembered as one of the season’s defining moments, with Briscoe emerging victorious by the narrowest of margins.
