In the USC Trojans‘ running back room, the obvious stars of the show are King Miller and Waymond Jordan. At times, in the first games of the season, fans have had a chance to see just how deep and talented this room actually is. Against Rutgers, the Trojans showed they have a versatile weapon in freshman running back Riley Wormley.
Wormley had a good preseason camp and was a scrutinized player prior to the season. In the first few games, he had been relatively quiet; in Week 3, Wormley was my breakout star of the game.
Riley Wormley gave the Trojans the explosion they were missing with some big plays on both sides of the ball. Wormley did not need to have too many touches in this game to have a huge impact. On the ground, Wormley had 3 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. Right at the goal line, to put the game out of reach, Wormley caught a 2-yard touchdown pass.
The underrated back showed he can make plays when his number is called. Wormley is a player who deserves a lot more touches and to be more involved in the offense. Especially with the tough defensive teams coming up on the schedule. USC will need guys that can make explosive plays. Wormley could be a guy who ends up replacing the home-run hitter Mosley was for USC at the start of the season.
