Michigan football secured its highest-rated commitment thus far in the 2027 recruiting cycle, having procured a verbal pledge from Kalamazoo (Mich.) Loy Norrix four-star offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey. Lipsey chose the Wolverines over LSU, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Minnesota, and quickly became the top-ranked player in the class, according to 247Sports, which has him as the No. 66 player in the country, regardless of position.
For the maize and blue, it’s a little bit of gain some and lose some, given that they lost four-star safety commit Darrell Mattison just a week ago.
Now with Lipsey in the fold, Kyle Whittingham’s team is back to climbing in the team rankings once again. Having been ranked 40th before his pledge, the Wolverines stand to move up to 30th per the 247Sports Composite, supplanting Ole Miss, which previously held the spot.
Michigan has but six commitments in the class at the moment, with four composite four-stars and two three-stars. Though 247Sports’ proprietary is highest on Lipsey, he’s still the highest via the composite, as he’s one spot above the previously highest-ranking commit in Muskegon (Mich.) four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, the No. 116 recruit in the country.
Here are the current commits, along with their highest ranking:
- Salt Lake City (Utah) West four-star QB Kamden Lopati – No. 46 overall, via ESPN
- Kalamazoo (Mich.) Loy Norrix four-star OT Jakari Lipsey – No. 66 overall, via 247Sports
- Muskegon (Mich.) four-star EDGE Recarder Kitchen – No. 116 overall, via 247Sports Composite
- Gatineau (Quebec) Brook Hill School four-star IOL Sidney Rouleau – No. 123 overall, via ESPN
- Saline (Mich.) three-star IOL Louis Esposito – No. 599 overall, via Rivals Industry Ranking
- Las Vegas (Nev.) Centennial three-star S Maxwell Miles – No. 799 overall, via Rivals Industry Ranking
