Everton are looking to add a new centre-forward this summer.

Reports are circulating that the Toffees are considering a move for Alexander Sorloth, currently with Atletico Madrid.

The 30-year-old striker has had a solid season, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances, which would make him an attractive addition for many sides.

Sorloth was once dubbed the ‘King of the North’ by his fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland.

He has got a strong reputation not just in Norway but across Europe, having put up impressive numbers at several clubs over his career.

Sorloth has naturally drawn comparisons to Haaland, not just because they share a nationality, but also due to their similar build and left-footedness.

Still, it is a bit misleading. Sorloth plays more like an old-fashioned centre-forward, while Haaland is always looking to use his speed to break in behind.

The Atletico Madrid star tends to hold up play and bring others in, while Haaland is all about getting in behind defences and making the most of open space.

The one thing Everton will need to think about is Sorloth’s previous stint in England. His time at Crystal Palace did not go well – he scored just once in 20 appearances before moving on.

Even so, that was several years back, and he has shown plenty of improvement since then. But it is still something David Moyes and his staff will need to weigh up carefully.

Based on current form, though, Sorloth would be a step up from Thierno Barry and Beto. He would also add valuable experience on the European stage if Everton do end up qualifying for continental competition this season.
