The Boston Red Sox watched CB Bucknor have a terrible day behind the plate on Saturday, highlighted by a terrible check swing call on Trevor Story.

Bucknor had a total of six calls overturned by the new ABS  challenge system. The Red Sox ran out of challenges early, but Bucknor made some strike calls outside of the zone that ended up standing because the Red Sox could not challenge. Finally, in the eighth inning, with two outs and two runners on in a one-run game, Bucknor made a terrible check swing call on Trevor Story that ended the inning.

Story was visibly upset, yelling at Bucknor, and Alex Cora was ejected. Well, on Tuesday, he made an even worse call in the Milwaukee Brewers game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He was the first base umpire and he ruled that Jake Bauers did not touch the first base bag and was tagged out.

At least with Story’s call, there was somewhat of a call to be made. Bauers had his entire foot on the first base bag. Lucky for the Brewers, they had a challenge, and the call was overturned. The call was so bad that both managers were seen laughing on the Brewers TV broadcast.

When watching the replay, it can also be seen that Bucknor was not even looking at Bauers when his foot hit the bag. He was looking at the ball after it got past the first baseman on a bad throw.
