The Arizona Cardinals have not yet decided on a defensive coordinator, but one of the candidates has decided he isn’t the guy. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Houston Texans defensive backs coach Dino Vasso has removed himself from consideration from any defensive coordinator job.

He is getting a contract extension with Houston, which likely means he is getting paid similarly to a DC and gets to continue coaching on a great Texans defense under head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Vasso was a top candidate for the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders. He also interviewed with the Cardinals and Tennessee Titans. The Titans went with Gus Bradley, whom the Cardinals offered more money and playcalling duties.

There hasn’t been any news about other candidates for the Cardinals. We know the Cardinals have requested interviews with Vasso, Rams passing game coordinator and assistant head coach Aubrey Pleasant and Giants linebackers coach Charlie Bullen. Nick Rallis, the defensive coordinator for the last three seasons, could still be in the mix, as there has been no news of him going anywhere or even interviewing.
