The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016, a trend that continued with their 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans to conclude the 2025 season. The Steelers have made the playoffs six times since their last postseason win, one of the biggest critiques about current head coach Mike Tomlin.
Pittsburgh might have had its best shot to break that cold spell against Houston thanks to the NFL’s scheduling, with the Steelers hosting the Texans in the final 2026 wild-card game of the weekend on “Monday Night Football.”
Pittsburgh was on an unreal run with home games played on Monday night. In fact, the Steelers went into the game having won 23 consecutive Monday night home games.
Here is more on the Steelers’ impressive streak that the Texans snapped.

Steelers ‘Monday Night Football’ winning streak
Pittsburgh went a total of 34 years not seeing its football team lose at home on a Monday night. So, why did that streak exist? Well, for starters, there are only a handful of Monday night games per season, and it is very rare for teams to play in more than one. Also, this record applied to only home games played on Monday night, further shrinking the Steelers’ sample size.
Still, it was extremely impressive that Pittsburgh won 23 home “Monday Night Football” games in a row. It was officially snapped when the Steelers were beat in the playoffs by the Texans in a “Monday Night Football” home game in January 2026.

Mike Tomlin ‘Monday Night Football’ record
Sustaining a win streak that long was already impressive enough, but it gets heightened with the fact that the streak had continued through two different head coaches.
Chuck Noll was the Steelers head coach when the franchise had last lost on a Monday night at home. Bill Cowher took over in 1992, and he went 11-0 for home “Monday Night Football” games. He stepped down in 2006 and current head coach Mike Tomlin took over in 2007. Since he took over, Tomlin had gone 12-0 at home on “Monday Night Football” before his playoff loss to the Texans.
