The South Bay Lakers took a three-game losing streak into Saturday’s game against the Mexico City Capitanes at UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo. This time, just about everything went their way. They led 32-20 after one quarter and extended their advantage to 66-40 just before halftime, and they never let up, as they raced to a 125-95 beatdown.
South Bay shot 52.3% from the field and 47.5% from 3-point range while holding the Capitanes to 40.5% from the field and outrebounding the Capitanes by 10. Eight South Bay players scored in double figures, and it was led by Arthur Kaluma, who had 25 points on 9-of-10 shooting while nailing six 3-pointers in 28 minutes off the bench.
Guard Luke Goode had 23 points, and R.J. Davis had 10 points and 10 assists. Center Kylor Kelley grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked three shots, and rookie guard Augustas Marčiulionis hit six of nine shot attempts to score 13 points, to go along with nine assists, five rebounds and four steals.
