Rubens Barrichello and Sebastian Vettel will be part of Scuderia Ferrari’s celebration of Michael Schumacher’s career in this weekend’s F1 Italian GP.
Having revealed its special F1 Italian GP livery to honour Schumacher in its home event, Ferrari has announced that Barrichello and Vettel will be at Monza. They will be driving the dominant F2002 machinery, which saw the German win his fifth world championship.
Barrichello, Vettel called in for a special run
He picked up 10 wins driving the car in the 2002 F1 season, while teammate Barrichello won four of them – including the Italian GP at Monza. The car’s B version was run for few rounds in the 2003 season, where Schumacher picked up a win, to make it 15 victories.
Barrichello will reunite with the F2002 for a run on Saturday afternoon. Likewise, four-time F1 champion Vettel will drive the car on Sunday before the grand prix. The German will have the honour of driving his hero’s car as he will make a return to the paddock, reuniting with his old pals.
As it is with the runs Vettel has undertaken in the last few years, Ferrari will run the F2002 using an advanced sustainable fuel prepared by Shell, which is in use in F1 2026. While the dominant car will be on track, the Italian outfit will have to other Schumacher’s cars on display at Monza.
More events in place
His first Ferrari F310 from 1996 F1 season will be on display, while his last Ferrari 248 from 2006 will be the other one. The team is running a special livery inspired by the F310 colours in this weekend’s Italian GP, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc wearing overall incorporating seven stars.
There will be more events that Hamilton and Leclerc will be part of as the week progresses, leading into the F1 Italian GP weekend. The team also informed that the museum at Maranello will display five of Schumacher cars from 2000 to 2004 at Victory Hall, from September 4 to September 30.
