The assumption at the moment is that Kyler Murray will sign with the Minnesota Vikings.
However, there’s a different path in play with the latest rumors, and it involves the Los Angeles Rams.
Murray is a free agent after the Arizona Cardinals released him officially on Wednesday, and now he’s considering his options.
Cardinals beat writer John Gambadoro reported this:
“While a starting job, like the one that could be had in Minnesota, is a priority… Murray’s camp will explore several 2026 backup options with a path to start in 2027, such as the Los Angeles Rams with Matthew Stafford.”

That would be a fascinating choice for Murray — essentially choose to take a redshirt year, learn from Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, and hit the ground running after a presumed Stafford retirement.
Obviously, if Stafford chose to keep playing, that plan could backfire.
Minnesota seems like a great fit. Murray could beat out J.J. McCarthy for the starting QB job, and he’d have a ton of offensive talent around him.
It’s always good to have alternatives, though, and the Rams would probably be a solid one for Murray.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, if Aaron Rodgers comes back, would fit a similar sit-a-year vibe if Murray wanted that.
This situation likely gets resolved by the end of the week, so stay tuned. It could get interesting.
