The Green Bay Packers will not retain defensive pass game coordinator Derrick Ansley after hiring former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich to the same job, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Ansley, 44, spent the last two seasons as the pass game coordinator under Jeff Hafley. Before joining the Packers, Ansley was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, serving as defensive backs coach from 2021 to 2022 before taking over as defensive coordinator in 2023.
Ansley will be the fourth assistant defensive coach to leave the Packers staff following Hafley’s departure. Defensive backs coach Ryan Downard, linebackers coach Sean Duggan and quality control assistant Wendel Davis are following Hafley to Miami.
It’s likely Ansley was one of the internal candidates interviewed by Matt LaFleur for the defensive coordinator job, which went to Jonathan Gannon.
In Los Angeles, Ansley worked under Brandon Staley, a close friend of Gannon.
