Like us, you may have been shocked by posts online suggesting that, as it cuts costs and lays off employees, ESPN laid off former Blue Devil Jay Bilas.

Well, relax: it’s not true.

Apparently, this rumor went viral because of a post by @NotJ0NRoth, a parody of CBS reporter Jon Rothstein (he fooled us once, too).

The truth is that ESPN faces both higher costs and more competition, and there are going to be times when it has to react to a more competitive market.

So far, though, it hasn’t affected Bilas, which is great news for college basketball fans primarily, though he has also done some NBA work lately as well.
