With the NHL season back in full swing, Friday’s NHL trade deadline represented every team’s last chance to make deals to improve its roster ahead of the playoff race.

Before the league broke for the Olympics, the Los Angeles Kings jumped the market by acquiring Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers in one of the biggest trades of the season. Still, plenty of quality players remained available, allowing teams the chance to shake up their rosters down the stretch.

However, this year’s deadline was not as exciting as in years past, with many of the big names staying put. There were some notable moves for contenders, but overall, most teams didn’t meet the asking price for the biggest options on the market

The Sporting News tracked news, rumors and official trades ahead of the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Here’s what happened.

NHL trade deadline 2026: Tracking the latest news, rumors

Canucks send David Kampf to Washington

The deal is for a sixth-round pick, as Vancouver keeps selling off pieces in a lowly year.

Bruins acquire Lukas Reichel from Canucks

Reichel is on the more once more, this time from Vancouver to Boston. Reichel has five points in 19 games for the Blackhawks and Canucks this season.

Scott Laughton goes to the Kings

The Knigs get Laughton ahead of the deadline, adding experience to the bottom six. Laughton had 12 points in 43 games for the Maple Leafs this year.

Ducks send Ryan Strome to Calgary

Anaheim is trading Strome to Calgary for a future seventh-round pick, clearing roster space in the process.

Red Wings acquire Justin Faulk

A 15-year veteran, Faulk has been with the Blues for the past seven years. He adds a lot of experience on Detroit’s blue line after producing 32 points in 61 games on the season.

Kraken land Bobby McMann

McMann goes from the Maple Leafs to Seattle for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick ahead of unrestricted free agency this Summer. The center has 32 points in 60 games this year.

Rasmus Ristolainen, Vincent Trocheck likely staying put

It appears that Ristolainen will remain a Flyer and Trocheck will stay in New York, as prices are too high for buyers to pull the trigger.

Blues add first-round pick in Schenn trade

The full package going from the Islanders to the Blues for Schenn is a first-round pick, a third-round pick and a prospect. It’s a nice return for the Blues, who got Schenn to waive his no-trade clause.

Penguins add Elmer Soderblom

In return, the Red Wings are getting a third-round pick for the young forward. The 24-year-old Soderblom has played in a career 39 games this year for Detroit, producing just three points.

Blues working to send Brayden Schenn to Islanders

After Luke Schenn went to Buffalo, Brayden is now likely on his way to Long Island. The 34-year-old has been in St. Louis for nine years and currently has 28 points for 61 games with the Blues.

Hurricanes trade for Nik Deslauriers

Deslauriers is s tough depth player who’s spent the past four seasons with the Flyers. He has just one point in 24 games this year, but is more known for his physicality than scoring.

Wild send Vinnie Hinostroza to Panthers

Minnesota has been busy, this time sending Hinostroza to Florida to clear roster space. Hinostroza has 10 points in 48 games this season.

Canadiens have inquired on Nazem Kadri

The Flames appear to be in sell mode, making Kadri a logical option for a contender in need of a forward. Kadri currently has 41 points in 61 games for the Flames and still has three years left on his contract.

Lightning acquiring Corey Perry from Kings

In return, the Lightning are sending LA a 2nd-round pick for the 40-year-old Perry, who is still a quality player with 28 points in 50 games. He returns to Tampa Bay, where he played from 2021-2023 and totaled 61 points in 163 games.

Nick Foligno heading to Wild

The Blackhawks captain is being traded to Minnesota, where he will play for a cup contender with his brother, Marcus. Foligno has just 11 points in 37 games this year, but the 38-year-old is still looking for his first Stanley Cup in his 19-year NHL career/

Flyers willing to keep Rasmus Ristolainen

Ristolainen has another year left on his contract, so Philadelphia appears prepared to keep him if the team can’t find someone to meet its price.

Colton Parayko not expected to waive his no-trade clause before deadline

The Blues had a trade with the Sabres lined up for the defenseman, but Parayko didn’t want to go to Buffalo. Now, after reports that he would be willing to head west, Parayko appears to be staying in St. Louis altogether for the forseeable future.

Wild acquire Bobby Brink from Flyers

In return, Minnesota is sending David Jiricek to Philadelphia. The 24-year-old Brink has 26 points in 55 games this year, but has already totaled a career high in goals with 13. Jiricek, meanwhile, is a defenseman who’s played in 25 games for the Wild this year.

Predators looking for a first rounder, top prospect for Ryan O’Reilly

The Predators have yet to field a “serious” offer for O’Reilly, reports LeBrun. Nashville reportedly wants a first-round pick and top prospect — if not more — for the 35-year-old, who won the Conn Smythe and Selke Trophy in 2019. The Predators’ price tag for O’Reilly seems somewhat influenced by what the Maple Leafs fetched for Nicolas Roy, with Toronto landing a first- and fifth-round pick for a player 20 points in 59 games. By comparison, O’Reilly has 57 points in 61 contests this year.

Rangers open to keeping Trocheck beyond deadline

Trocheck remains one of the hottest names in this year’s trade deadline, with the Rangers dangling the veteran forward around. According to Friedman, New York is willing to keep Trocheck beyond the trade deadline if its demands aren’t met. The 32-year-old center, a member of the gold-medal-winning U.S. men’s national team, has 39 points in 47 games.

Devils listening to offers for former No. 2 pick Nemec

New Jersey is open to dealing defenseman Simon Nemec. The 22-year-old Slovak was the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He has a career-best 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) in 48 games. Nemec’s rookie deal expires in the offseason. New Jersey is seeking a young top-six forward to slot alongside Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, according to LeBrun.

Capitals trade John Carlson to Ducks

In perhaps the biggest surprise of the 2026 deadline so far, the Capitals dealt longtime franchise cornerstone John Carlson to Anaheim for a conditional first-round draft pick and a 2027 third-rounder.

Carlson, 36, is still a highly effective quarterback on the blue line with 10 goals and 46 points in 55 games this season, and will provide veteran leadership to one of the NHL’s youngest rosters. Meanwhile, the fifth-place Capitals signal an end of an era.

Connor Garland traded to Blue Jackets

  • Date: March 6
  • Source: Pierre LeBrun

The Canucks traded forward Conor Garland to Columbus in exchange for a 2028 second-round draft pick and a third-rounder in 2026.

Sabres add depth in trades with Jets, Rangers

Depth defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn are headed to Buffalo in exchange for a 2027 second-round draft pick, a 2026 fourth-rounder, F Isak Rosen and D Jacob Bryson.

In a separate trade, the Sabres also acquired veteran center Sam Carrick from the Rangers for 2026 third- and sixth-round draft picks.

Red Wings interested in Vincent Trocheck, Robert Thomas

Friedman reports that Detroit has checked in on two of the top names on the trade market in Trocheck and Thomas.

Six teams linked to Conor Garland

LeBrun named the Blue Jackets, Islanders, Bruins, Devils, Capitals and Sharks as options for the Canucks forward. With 26 points on the year and signed through 2032, Garland seems to be a hot name.

Predators trying to find Jonathan Marchessault a “new home”

While Steven Stamkos and Ryan O’Reilly are less likely to be moved, Nashville could trade Marchessault before the deadline. Marchessault has 18 points in 42 games this year and is still under contract for three more years.

Vincent Trocheck out vs. Maple Leafs for roster management

Trocheck remains one of the biggest players on the market, so New York will keep him out to insure he remains healthy. Rangers forward Sam Carrick is also out for similar reasons.

Predators send Michael Bunting to Stars

Dallas is acquiring Bunting for a third-round pick, according to Elliotte Friedman. Bunting has 31 points in 61 games and will be on his fifth team since 2021.

Senators trading for Warren Foegele

Ottawa is also getting a pick while sending a couple of picks to the Kings in return. Foegele has nine points in 47 games for Los Angeles this year.

Wild’s pursuit of Vincent Trocheck “fading”

Minnesota has been linked to Trocheck, but the Rangers appear to be holding strong with their asking price. The Wild are still looking for center help, and GM Bill Guerin is familiar with Trocheck from their connection with Team USA.

Sharks acquire Jett Woo from Canucks for Jack Thompson

The two Western Conference teams agree to the minor deal involving depth defenseman.Thompson has played 31 games for San Jose this year, while Woo has spent the season in the AHL.

Wild add Jeff Petry from Panthers

  • Date: March 5
  • Source: Wild

Petry is an UFA at the end of the year, and Minnesota gives up a seventh-round pick for him. The veteran adds depth to the Wild’s defense.

Parayko prefers trade to Western Conference

It appears that Parayko’s issue with a trade to the Sabres was heading all the way out east. Weekes says two options for Parayko include California teams in the Kings and the Ducks.

Parayko won’t waive no-trade, halting deal with Sabres

The Blues and Sabres trade for Parayko will now fall through, keeping the veteran defenseman in St. Louis. The 32-year-old, who has spent his entire career with the Blues, is signed for the next four seasons at $6.5 million a year and has a full no-trade clause through the end of next year.

Flyers “checked in” on Robert Thomas

Philadelphia is one of the reported teams to inquire on the Blues forward, but the Flyers backed off when the asking price was too high. St. Louis seems to want a lot in return for Thomas, which is turning some teams away.

Flames need to be “blown away” to trade Zach Whitecloud

Whitecloud is signed for the next 2.5 seasons, so Calgary doesn’t have to move him if it doesn’t get a good deal. According to Dreger, at least 15 teams have called the Flames about Whitecloud’s availability.

Maple Leafs trade Nic Roy to Avalanche

Colorado is sending a first- and a fifth-round pick to Toronto for the center. In his first season with Maple Leafs, Roy has five goals and 20 points over 59 games.

Golden Knights acquire Nic Dowd from Capitals

The Golden Knights are acquiring C Nic Dowd from the Capitals, with Washington’s return currently unknown. Dowd was in his eighth season in Washington and has 16 points on four goals and 16 assists through 55 games this season.

Colton Parayko deal to Buffalo now uncertain

Colton Parayko was still with the Blues as of late Wednesday night and had not yet made a decision on waiving his no-trade clause to facilitate a deal that would send him to the Sabres. The deal is not believed to be off the table at this point.

Oilers send first-round pick for Jason Dickinson

The Oilers are acquiring C Jason Dickinson and F Colton Dach from the Blackhawks, in exchange for Andrew Mangiapane and a 2027 first-round pick. Dickinson has 13 points on six goals and seven assists this season, and he is two years removed from a 22-goal campaign in Chicago.

Avalanche land Nick Blankenburg from Nashville

The Avalanche announce they swung a deal to land D Nick Blankenburg from the Predators, in exchange for a fifth-round pick. Blankenburg has 21 points on five goals and 16 assists across 49 games this season.

MacKenzie Weegar approves trade to Mammoth

MacKenzie Weegar is officially heading to Utah after he agreed to waive his no-trade clause. The Mammoth are sending Olli Maatta, Jonathan Castanga and three second-round picks to Calgary.

St. Louis Blues D Colton Parayko to Sabres

The St. Louis Blues are close to sending D Colton Parayko to the Buffalo Sabres. Part of the return is expected to include Radim Mrtka and a first. Parayko has a full no-trade clause, but he is expected to say yes.

Utah close to acquiring MacKenzie Weegar

Friedman reported that the Mammoth is close to acquiring Calgary Flames defender MacKenzie Weegar. The deal is reportedly awaiting Weegar’s approval.

Stars add Tyler Myers from Canucks

Vancouver acquires two picks for the veteran defenseman, a second-rounder in 2027 and a fourth-rounder in 2029. The 36-year-old provides experience in Dallas while still looking for his first Stanley Cup.

Panthers to dangle Sergei Bobrovsky after latest loss

With just 63 points, the two-time defending champions are currently last in the Atlantic and face a steep hill to make the playoffs. Therefore, LeBrun reports Florida is listening on pending UFAs, which include Bobrovsky and A.J. Greer. Bobrovsky does have a 16-team no-trade clause as part of his contract.

Devils “taking calls” on Simon Nemec

New Jersey may not trade the former No. 2 overall pick, but it is at least listening to offers. The Devils have disappointed this year, sitting in second-to-last place in the Metropolitan division.

Robert Thomas talks between Sabres and Blues cool

The two sides reportedly had intense talks about the forward, but Buffalo wouldn’t meet St. Louis’ asking price. Instead, it appears the Sabres will turn elsewhere

Islanders, Canucks discussing Conor Garland deal

New York could look to add the forward as part of a playoff push. Garland has 26 points in 49 games this year, and his six-year, $36 million will begin next season.

Blues “ready to move” Jordan Binnington

The long-time Blues goalie has 1.5 years left on his contract, but St. Louis appears prepared to move him this deadline. Binnington as a 16-team no-trade clause, giving him agency over his future.

Talks “heating up” between Blues and Sabres over Robert Thomas

Thomas is one of the best players on the market, and he could be headed to Buffalo as the Sabres look to end their playoff drought. Thomas has 12 goals and 35 points in 43 games this season.
