The New York Giants signed veteran backup quarterback Brandon Allen this week, who should be a welcome addition to their quarterback room that already consists of Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston.

The move reunites Allen with Brian Callahan, the former Tennessee Titans head coach whom John Harbaugh hired as both the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach earlier this year.

Allen told the New York Post back in February that Callahan would have a huge impact on Dart, the team’s second-year budding star.

“What he’s so good at is communicating certain ways with different guys,” Allen said. “Some guys might need a pat on the back, some guys might need you to rip them a little bit. He does a good job gauging where the player is, depending upon personality, type of player, that sort of thing. He changes the way he gets the same message across.”

With experience under Callahan, Allen expects Dart to hear “do it right” quite often.

“That’s kind of his thing if he eyeballs something wrong,” Allen said. “We’re not always going to redo this play or run that again. That’s his mentality. He is all about the details. He’s not a drill sergeant, but he’s about doing the little things right that will translate into making the whole play right or making the right throw.”

Dart played last season with reckless abandon, and the Giants don’t want him throwing his body around in the same manner in the future. Callahan will make sure that Dart plays smarter and directs his energy more positively.

“The Giants fan probably won’t notice a quarterbacks coach on game day,” former Titans general manager Ran Carthon told The Post. “But I guarantee the guys in that quarterback room will walk away like, ‘This guy is super impressive, and I love working with him.’

“Jaxson Dart is definitely his kind of guy. Cally is going to allow him to have a voice. He will respect the quarterback to the point of, ‘Tell me what you like.’ Jaxson won’t be making any decisions, but if you are a quarterback, you want to feel empowered — that you are being heard.”

It will be interesting to see how the whole dynamic works.
