The Jesse Burkett Little League has had quite a busy summer, with three teams enjoying long postseason runs.
The Junior League squad is coming off its sixth straight state championship and will play in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in the East Regional from July 23-28, the 12U team also won a state title and on Monday was eliminated from the New England Regional in Bristol, Conn and Jesse Burkett’s 10U team also has a state title and is heading for the East Region Championship Tournament in Staten Island, New York from July 24-29.
The 10U tournament features regional champions from New England and the Mid Atlantic and Jesse Burkett will start pool play on July 26 at a time to be determined.
Jesse Burkett defeated Canton in the state championship game on July 12 and features a solid roster of returning players from a team that played in the state final last season.
“This young team was out for a comeback season,” said Jesse Burkett manager Mel Melkonian, who is assisted by Kurt Biando and Mike Morrissey. “They have exceeded all expectations and are so proud to be a a part of program history while sweeping state titles in. All three divisions, the pride at Burkett is unmatched. We have celebrated every moment together and the support from the community is noteworthy too.”
Jesse Burkett is 13-0 heading into the New England Regional. The roster includes Emily Morrissey, Brianna Grant, Izzy Biando, Rose Becker, Ashlyn Ingles, Madelyn Morrissey, Madelyn Kozlowski, Clara Lahey, Abriana Gonzalez, Flora Pacheco and Avery Beaudreau.
