It’s been a (first) season to forget for Jamie Gittens, and it’s only getting worse with the news that he’s set to miss significant time after tearing his hamstring in last weekend’s game against West Ham United. There was some initial hope that the injury wouldn’t be too bad, but head coach Liam Rosenior confirmed the unfortunate news in Friday’s press conference.
“Jamie, he’s looking a little bit more long-term. It’s a real shame for him. He’s got a tear in his hamstring, which is a real shame for him. I have not worked with him for too long. Obviously, I know about his career and what an outstanding player he is. Yeah, so that’s going to be a big miss for us. […] It’s too early to say [how long he will be out].”

Gittens does not have a history of hamstring injuries — he missed a good chunk of 2021-22 with torn ankle ligaments and dealt with a shoulder problem for much of 2022-23, but nothing major since — so hopefully he can avoid any lingering problems from it. It’s unclear if he’ll need surgery at this point, though if it’s that bad, it’s probably best to make sure it heals as best as possible.
The 21-year-old has made 27 appearances for Chelsea, but mostly off the bench. He has one goal and five assists to his name.
