Jacksonville State football home opener vs. EKU enters weather delay

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville State football home opener with Eastern Kentucky has been delayed due to weather.

The delay came in the middle of the second quarter as a thunderstorm passed through Calhoun County. The delay started at 6:52 p.m. CT and will last 30 minutes past the last lightning strike in an eight-mile radius of AmFirst Stadium.

The Weather Channel gives a 24% chance of rain for the six and seven o’clock hours as scattered showers come through East Alabama. Another concern is the heat. As of 5:55 p.m., Jacksonville had a feel-like temperature of 105℉, with a temperature of 95℉.

The Gamecocks led 21-0 at the time of the delay thanks to three touchdowns by Jamill Williams, who connected with Caden Creel. There was 11:30 left in the second quarter.

The Gamecocks season started with a 33-7 blowout loss to North Dakota State as the Bison scored the final 26 points of the game. Jax State was held under 200 yards for the first time since 2021.
