There are some fresh paces at the top of the 5A cheerleading pyramid after Wednesday night’s state championship.

Olympus was crowned state champs in the 5A all-girl division, while Maple Mountain captured the 5A co-ed state championship.

It was the first state championship for both teams since the UHSAA officially began sanctioning cheer in 2023.

“This team is something special. In what was a rebuilding year for us, we also faced adversity all season long— setbacks, injuries and challenges. No matter what happened they continued to stay focused, trust the process, and in the end their perseverance paid off. We are so blessed to be the 2026 state shampions,” said Olympus coach Hailie Caso.

Salem Hills had won the all-girls state title each of the past three years, but Olympus denied the Skyhawks a 3-peat. Fremont ended up finishing second runner-up in the all-girls division, with Salem Hills in third.

Olympus was the only team to place in the top three in all three categories (Dance, Cheer, Show).

Olympus won the Dance category, while Salem Hills won the Cheer category and Fremont the Show category

In the co-ed division, Cedar Valley won last year’s state championship but it’s now competing in 6A. That opened the door for Maple Mountain, which narrowly beat Northridge for the title.

Box Elder finished third.

Maple Mountain finished first in the Show category in second in the Dance category. And despite not finishing in the top 3 in the Cheer category, it still claimed the title.

Northridge finished in the top three in all categories, including winning Dance. Box Elder finished first in the Cheer category.
