The Devils will be without defenseman Luke Hughes for the foreseeable future.

Hughes was placed on long-term IR on Wednesday with a dislocated shoulder suffered during Monday’s game.

The 22-year-old appeared to suffer the injury when Calgary forward Justin Kirkland tugged on his jersey while chasing a puck out of the zone, causing Hughes to pull up in pain and go straight to the bench.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe said that he was still being evaluated postgame, but the team expected him to miss time.

Now, he’ll have to be sidelined a minimum of 10 games and 24 days.

Hughes’ absence is certainly a big one for New Jersey, as he’s currently averaging just over 23 minutes a night and leads the team on the backend with 26 points in 49 games.

In a corresponding move, D Colton White has been recalled from Utica.
