Coventry fall to defeat against QPR allowing Boro to catch up

It was a dramatic day in the Championship as Coventry City lost their stranglehold on the first place.

The Sky Blues remain top of the leaderboard but instead of being first thanks to a 10-point gap they are now only top due to a goal difference of 10.

Josh Eccles had given Coventry the lead at Loftus Road early into the second half. However, QPR fought back with Richard Koné levelling the scoring in the 77th minute before Nicolas Madsen netted the win seven minutes later.

Meanwhile further north Hayden Hackney‘s 17th minute goal at home to Norwich City was all that was needed for Kim Hellberg‘s team to clinch all three points.

Coventry’s loss and Boro’s win now means that two teams are both top of the Championship on 58 points with Hull City third on 53.

It’s a remarkable turnaround when for much of the early part of the season it seemed Coventry would coast to the title.

Now, after two defeats in a row for Frank Lampard‘s team, the big game between the top two on February 16th could be even more significant.
