Chatigny earns medalist honors in all Week 5 golf matches for Sandwich

Dramatic matches followed Nauset during Week 5 of the boys high school golf season.

Friday’s showdown at Martha’s Vineyard provided another and it once again left Nauset reeling just one day after it fell to Sandwich by a single shot.

Martha’s Vineyard stayed in the hunt for a piece of the Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division regular season championship on the back of a three-shot victory over Nauset, which came down to the seventh score.

Shane Harding and Chander Blau each carded a five-over 41, while Jacoby Light and Peter Williamson posted six-over 42s for Martha’s Vineyard. Jake Gatchell and Ben Kokoszka matched one another with 43s. Gusto Martone’s 46 proved to be the difference in after the two teams were tied at 252 at Vineyard Golf Club.

Oliver Smith earned medalist honors with a two-over 38, while Owen Everson (39) was the only other Nauset golfer to post a sub-40 round. Jacob Campbell and Hudson Cole each shot 42. Mac Heinz (45) and Blake Silvestri (46) each factored into the scoring, but Jack Pavlu’s 49 fell three strokes short of Martha’s Vineyard’s seventh score.

Boys Golf 

Sandwich 234, Bourne 251: Blaise Chatigny earned his fourth medalist showing of the week after he carded a three-under 32 at Brookside Golf Club to lead the Blue Knights (12-1) to an eighth consecutive win. Anderson Lauf (37), Bradley Moesman (38), Owen Labelle (40), Sam Konary (43) and Matt Tokla (44) contributed to the team total.

Cole Thomas was the low card for the Canalmen (8-5) with a three-over 38. Charlie Seitz (41) and Ronan Kelly (42) played well in the loss. The Canalmen started three freshmen for the first time this season. Jack Foley made his varsity debut and settled in after a couple of holes and made two birdies to finish with a 43. Jackson Mark remained steady and shot 42, while Ben Hamblin posted 49 in his second match.

Girls Soccer 

Martha’s Vineyard 1, Falmouth 0: Iyla Story scored the game’s lone goal on an assist from Maple Martone to lift the Vineyarders (4-3-0) to a shutout win over the Clippers (5-2-2).

Rising Tide 7, Falmouth Academy 0: The Mariners (1-3-1) were blanked in the loss.

Sandwich 4, Nantucket 1: The Blue Knights (7-1-0) won their sixth straight outing, which ended the Whalers (3-4-0) three-match win streak.

Boys Soccer 

Martha’s Vineyard 0, Falmouth 0: There was nothing that could separate the Vineyarders (4-1-2) and the Clippers (6-2-2) in what was a defensive showcase.

West Bridgewater 3, Bourne 2: Myach Hingston and Frank Greul, who scored on a volley that hit the top corner from 40 yards out, provided the goals for the Canalmen (2-5-1). James Kirby had an assist.

Archbishop Williams 2, St. John Paul II 1: The Lions (4-3-2) fell to a third straight defeat since seeing their unbeaten run come to an end. Elie Youssef scored his team’s lone goal with an assist from Eli Bassil. Quinn Dillon and Migy Armaczuk delivered strong performances in the midfield.

Rising Tide 4, Falmouth Academy 1: The Mariners (0-3-0) are still looking for a first win of the season after scoring just their second goal of the campaign.

Nantucket 2, Sandwich 0: The Whalers (6-1-0) won their fourth straight game at the expense of the winless Blue Knights (0-6-0).

Sturgis West 5, Sturgis East 1: The Navigators (5-1-0) and the Storm (3-4-0) met in a rivalry match in what turned into a hard-fought battle despite the scoreline.

Adrian Kniskern delivered his best performance for the Storm, showing great aggression in the midfield and winning numerous tackles. Adam Alharthy prevented a shutout by converting a penalty kick with a minute left.

Girls Volleyball

Barnstable 3, Attleboro 0: Maddy Campbell dished out 36 assists in a straight-sets sweep (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) win for the Redhawks (8-2). Ava Johnson (17 kills, two blocks) and Bella Magalhaes (eight kills, four aces) had big performances, while Amalia Thompson and Ava Britton contributed six and five kills, respectively.

The serve receive corp only allowed three aces in the match. Jaelynn Jason led the defense with 10 digs. Kylie Boorack had eight digs and Molly Colantuono added six digs. Alayna Rodriguez had 12 service points.

Field Hockey

Dennis-Yarmouth 7, Nantucket 0: Brooke Chicoine and Aurora Quenneville each scored twice, while Jenna Richard tallied a goal and two assists for the Dolphins (6-1-0) in a shutout performance of the Whalers (1-5-2). Maddie McCarthy had a goal and an assist, Kimmi Sherpa tallied a goal, and Sammie Precourt and Skylar Hopkins had an assist each. Addy Callachan was credited for her third shutout of the season after the Dolphins’ defense held the Whalers to just one shot on goal.

Barnstable 7, New Bedford 0: Izzy Hill had the shutout in goal for the RedHawks (4-4-2). Cate Buckler (two assists) and Aisling Mograss (assist) each scored a hat trick. Tessa Przygoda had a goal and an assist.

Sturgis 3, Middleborough 0: The Storm (1-4-1) earned their first victory of the season behind two goals and an assist from Maggie Reino. Sarah Ward added the other goal. Ceci O’Connor delivered a standout performance on defense.
