But on Monday night at TD Garden, they used defense and rebounding to defeat the Chicago Bulls, 115-101, and improve to 23-12 overall.It wasn’t a normal game for the C’s, as they shot 40.4% overall and star guard Jaylen Brown, who tied a career-high with 50 points on Saturday night, managed just 14 points on 25% shooting from the floor. Celtics guard Anfernee Simons stepped up instead, recording a season-high 27 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard also helped with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.Boston attempted 18 more field goals than Chicago, won the turnover battle 13-8, and scored 26 second-chance points to Chicago’s 12. Both teams shot under 40% from beyond the arc and missed some open opportunities.Following the win, the Celtics officially moved into second place in the Eastern Conference. They passed the rival New York Knicks, who were blown out on Monday night by the Detroit Pistons, 121-90.Boston has now won eight of its last nine games.
