The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are moving on to the next stage of their offensive coordinator search as they get key second in-person interviews underway. The team has interviewed a wide range of people and candidates for the role, but this stage is most likely to be where the team identifies their future playcaller.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team will interview Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson on Wednesday and former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan on Thursday.
Robinson was with the Falcons and their dynamic offense for the last two seasons, and the Los Angeles Rams for the five years before that. He has shown he can use running backs in a dynamic way, which is good news for the likes of Bucky Irving. The passing attack also showed it can make splash plays with either Michael Penix Jr. or Kirk Cousins undercenter, again, that is good news for the Bucs.
The flip side of this coin is that Brian Callahan showed in Tennessee that he struggled to call plays for his franchise quarterback, Cam Ward. He couldn’t bring that offense to the stage that was expected, which is why he was fired from the Titans. He is certainly able to overcome that with a more sound offense like the Bucs, but this move would take a leap of faith from the team and fans alike.
