With the season’s first El Clasico just around the corner, there is plenty for Real Madrid supporters to get excited about this weekend, even though Jose Mourinho’s men are not firm favourites heading into this clash.

Barcelona legends such as Gerard Pique have predicted the Catalans to secure an emphatic win. However, on the flip side, former Real Madrid player Guti has a different opinion.

In a recent interview, Guti offered his thoughts on both El Clasico as well as the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which will be held just a day after the match.

He backed Los Blancos to come out on top on Sunday, while throwing his support behind Kylian Mbappe for the Ballon d’Or.

Despite acknowledging the scale of the task facing Mourinho’s side, the former Madrid man is tipping his old club to prevail in a high-scoring affair.

“I imagine a very entertaining match full of goals. I’d be very happy if Real Madrid wins, so I’ll predict they’ll win 4-2,” he said (h/t SPORT).

However, the Spaniard did acknowledge that beating an in-form Barcelona side at their own turf will be quite difficult.

“But the truth is, I see the match as extremely tough for them, and that Barcelona has a big chance of securing the victory,” he added.

Mbappe for the Ballon d’Or

Turning to the Ballon d’Or, which will be handed out 24 hours after the Clasico, Guti made no secret of who he would like to see lift the trophy.

“I would be extremely happy if Mbappe wins the Ballon d’Or, but anything can happen,” he said.

Even so, he was realistic about just how competitive this year’s field is, naming several worthy candidates.

“I think the competition is very open between Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and even Harry Kane. I see this year as one of the most open years for the award competition, and any one of them could win it,” he added.

Ultimately, the former Madrid star believes the prize is likely to go to one of the two men set to light up the Camp Nou on Sunday.

“As for me, it wouldn’t be surprising if Mbappe or Lamine Yamal wins, because both are extremely great players,” he concluded.
