Chicago Bears fans are understandably upset that their star quarterback is sidelined. However, the team’s supporters might be taking it a bit too far heading into Monday Night Football.
NFL Week 3 closes out on Monday night as the Bears host the Philadelphia Eagles without Caleb Williams. It’s a massive loss for Chicago, a team looking to build on its playoff success from a season ago.
It seems like the city is treating Williams’ hamstring injury much more severely than it actually is, though. A large group of Bears fans were spotted signing a giant get well card for the Bears QB1 prior to the matchup at Soldier Field.
Nobody’s saying the sentiment isn’t genuine or wholesome, but the reality is Williams is only missing a few weeks. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner went down injured during Week 2’s 9-3 loss against the Minnesota Vikings.

The 24-year-old’s non-contact injury certainly caused a shockwave across the NFL. Williams’ early reaction after laying in agony on the field suggested the worst-case scenario for the Bears.
That anguish has since been lessened after updates on the Chicago star revealed that he’ll likely take three to four weeks to heal. It’s absolutely still a blow to the Bears’ season plans, but it feels like fans are slightly overreacting to the news.
This season, NFL teams have suffered countless injuries that have lasting implications. Miami Dolphins star De’Von Achane’s been ruled out for the season after tearing his ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Meanwhile, Week 3 also displayed other scary injuries to Baker Mayfield, Brian Burns, Justin Jefferson and Jaycee Horn. Burns and Horn’s setbacks are likely considered season-ending, but Mayfield and Jefferson aren’t expected to miss much time.
Ben Johnson’s squad has to turn to Case Keenum against the Eagles, while Tyson Bagent is another option behind center. Keenum’s played for eight different NFL teams throughout his career, while Bagent’s been with the Bears since 2023 after signing as an undrafted free agent.

The Bears have upcoming tests against the New York Jets, Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons after appearing on MNF. Chicago’s hopeful that Williams could return to the field somewhere within that timeframe of games.
