The Denver Broncos had one of the best defenses in 2025. It’s what carried them to a No. 1 seed in the AFC. Sure, it might have been a bit of a down year for the conference but there was no denying their defensive prowess. Teams change and personnel is different every year, but what the Kansas City Chiefs did to the Broncos on Monday Night Football should keep some Indianapolis Colts fans up at night.
A ton of that concern comes from the Chiefs hanging 31 points on that defense. More concern comes from the fact that the Chiefs’ defense shut down Bo Nix and the Broncos’ offense as well. The most concerning part has nothing to do with either the Chiefs or the Broncos, however. The main concern stems from what we witnessed on Sunday against the Ravens as the Colts were absolutely shredded. 31 points were surrendered by halftime with Lamar Jackson having 324 yards through the air, while he and Derrick Henry picked up another 184 on the ground. Let’s also not forget that Zay Flowers had 150 yards and barely played half a game.
Overall, the defense couldn’t get off the field. Third and long was no problem as the Ravens converted with ease, especially in the first half. Justin Walley was targeted on repeat and left the game cooked. The line didn’t generate enough pressure and failed to tackle Jackson when they had the chance. Flowers, Henry, and even Mark Andrews ran free and wild. If the Chiefs took the Broncos to the woodshed, they must be licking their chops after witnessing that incredibly lackluster effort from the Colts.
The season isn’t over by any stretch of the imagination, and no one in the organization should panic. One good game gets them right back into things. To be without nerves after watching each team play, however, would be foolish. One team looked primed for another go at a Super Bowl. The other looked like they will be watching the playoffs from home again. Something has to change if the Colts are going to win at Arrowhead.
