The final game of Week 1 didn’t start on time.
No. 19 SMU’s game at Florida State was delayed after the power went out minutes before the scheduled kickoff time of just after 7:30 p.m. ET. After a brief delay as teams were on the field waiting for the game to begin, both went back to their locker rooms as the power attempted to be restored.
Per ESPN’s broadcast, a transformer blew as the power was trying to be restored to the stadium. What was set to be a very brief delay looked to stretch to at least 30 minutes. There was no estimated start time when the teams left the field shortly before 8 p.m. ET.
SMU coach Rhett Lashlee told ESPN that the teams would warm up on the field for 10 minutes once the power was back on and the game was given the green light to go ahead.
The game is the first for the Mustangs in 2026, while FSU is already 1-0. The Seminoles played in Week Zero and beat New Mexico State 34-17.
