This year’s two best rookie competed head to head last week, and they didn’t disappoint. New Orleans Saints passer Tyler Shough and Tennessee Titans first overall pick Cam Ward were featured in a Mic’d Up clip from NFL Films to give us a look at each rookie’s day at the office. It’s clear they both have a strong presence, but you can see why guys are rallying around Shough after the Saints had a rough start to the season.
“Do your job all day,” Shough said in the huddle, “Great feet, great eyes, great technique. Make a play.”
It’s also clear that Shough has developed great chemistry with his leading wide receiver Chris Olave. He approached Olave on the bench late in regulation to tell him, “We got to throw the ball to win the game. Throw the ball to win the game so whatever it takes bro.” After connecting with Olave on a touchdown pass, the pair celebrated all the way back to the bench.
“Oh my God. Oh my God,” Shough gasped, leaping to chest-bump Olave. “I told you I’m gonna get you.”

It’s a really cool look at how Shough conducts himself on game days. And from the loud reactions of his offensive linemen and other teammates after big plays, his positive energy is infectious. Win or lose in Week 18’s season finale with the Atlanta Falcons, it sure looks like the Saints have found their guy.
