Liverpool’s search for their Mohamed Salah replacement has now stretched across the entirety of the summer, starting before the World Cup kicked off and now having seen the back of the opening matchweek of the 2026-27 Premier League season and with transfer deadline day rapidly approaching.
The latest out of France is that the saga could soon end with the successful capture of Paris Saint-Germain’s 23-year-old French international Bradley Barcola, with the fee potentially rising to €140M (£120M) including add-ons after PSG stood firm and refused to go lower and Liverpool acquiesced to the fee demand.
Or at least that’s the story from L’Equipe and PSG-connected Loïc Tanzi, who says the valuation gap between the clubs has narrowed enough over the past week for the deal now to be considered something of a sure thing—not that we’ll be feeling entirely confident until the contract is signed and Barcola is leaning.
PSG started off demanding €170M (£145M) for the left winger, while Liverpool previously submitted a bid of €117M (£100M) that the Ligue 1 side rejected. Meanwhile, widespread reports today continue to insist that the player himself is set on joining Liverpool and there will be no late complications.
Or at least there won’t be if the clubs have in fact reached a fee and structure both can live with, paving the way for a so-called final bid that would allow Barcola to travel to Merseyside to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on a contract for his new club before the window slams shut September 1st.
