Tennessee baseball continued its work in the transfer portal this week, adding two arms to the equation. The Volunteers picked up commitments from former Louisville right-handed pitcher Parker Detmers and former South Carolina lefty Jake McCoy.
McCoy went 4-5 in 2025, posting a 6.90 ERA. He struck out 77 batters while walking 40. McCoy is coming off of Tommy John surgery, which forced him to miss the entire 2026 season with South Carolina. The 6-1, 185 pound pitcher is an MLB Draft risk, thanks to his dominance in the Cape Cod league last summer. McCoy is the 150th ranked prospect in the draft, according to MLB.com.
Tennessee beat out offers from LSU and a potential return to South Carolina to land McCoy. The Vols will now await the draft to see what his final decision will be.
Tennessee came back this week following McCoy’s commitment to add Parker Detmers. The 6-4, 250 pound right-hander went 3-2 with a 5.71 ERA during his two seasons with the Cardinals. Detmers struck out 32 batters and walked 18.
Detmers was the Saturday starter for Louisville in 2025, but also missed the 2026 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He comes from the same high school in Illinois that produced Cam Appenzeller.
Detmers is draft-eligible this season, but isn’t viewed as much of a risk.
McCoy and Detmers join Brody Trosclair (Northwestern State) and Ricky Ojeda (UC Irvine) in Tennessee’s transfer portal pitcher class. Tw0-way Mercer star Braydon Kersey is also in the class, along with former Air Force second baseman Wyatt Hanoian.
