Round 1

To quote the inimitable UFC play-by-play commentator John Gooden,
we are about to be delighted with a festival of face-punching here
at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle tonight. A baker’s dozen
matchups will hopefully provide a plethora of mayhem and carnage,
but the good kind that we like to see at a major MMA event. The
action all commences with a rematch between ladies that first met
in 2019. The lone loss on the ledger for submission specialist
Thainara (13-1, 2-0 UFC) came to Brasil (11-6-1, 3-4 UFC) by
guillotine choke, and you bet your bottom dollar that the favored
Thainara wants that one back. The strawweights and countrywomen
touch gloves in front of governing referee Bobby Wombacher, who
clocks the two in.

Brasil immediately introduces herself with a clubbing body kick,
and as the two trade, commentator Daniel Cormier is already
off-track talking about golfing. Thainara steps into the pocket to
throw hands, closing in to swing her fists while Brasil fires off
distance-keeping kicks. Thainara aims one-twos down the pipe, and
she clashes shins with Brasil when they kick at the same time.
Thainara ducks down to grab hold of Brasil’s ankle and trip her up,
and Brasil falls to her seat. Brasil is quick to bounce back up,
but Thainara tackles her back down with a trip takedown to ground
her again. Brasil wall-walks to return upright, and Thainara leans
on her while kneeing her in the thigh. The audience is already
lathered up and starts booing, leading to the ladies splitting up
with Brasil connecting with a clean elbow on the break. Thainara
responds with winging punches that redden up Brasil’s nose, and
Brasil skirts away when Thainara lobs a spinning back kick.

Thainara takes a low kick to respond with a right hand over the
top, and the bottom of her forehead begins to swell from the
powerful elbow she took flush. She pays it no mind as she marches
Brasil down, ignoring kicks to open up with punches. Brasil
chambers and fires a body kick, and Thainara catches it and dumps
her to the mat, landing directly in the guard. Thainara pulls
Brasil away from the cage wall to prevent her from standing, and
she exerts heavy pressure to further trap Brasil on her back.
Brasil’s keeps a high guard, possibly to set something up, so
Thainara stops her completely by wrenching on the back of her neck
with an old school can opener neck crank. Brasil grimaces and
wriggles out of the painful position, and Thainara hacks down with
elbows and maintains another can opener until the round wraps.

Round 2

Thainara does not fall for the opening kick that does not come her
way, instead rushing forward pushing out a jab that sets up a left
upstairs. Brasil chops at her lead leg, and Thainara fires back and
digs a front kick to the midsection that changes Brasil’s
expression. Thainara jams Brasil up, bullying her to the fence so
she can work knees. Brasil pushes her off and steps out with a
knee, and Thainara shoves her back and absorbs a body kick. When
Brasil commits to a spin kick from up close, Thainara dodges it and
grapples her to force a clinch, where she pushes Brasil back to the
cage again. They trade knees on the inside, and Thainara claims she
may have taken one to the groin, but nothing comes of it. Thainara
grinds on the taller woman, scoring knees on the ribcage until
action slightly slows and boo birds rain down. Thainara pursues a
trip, and Brasil drops to a knee and pops back up no worse for
wear.

Wombacher calls for more activity as the two continue to knee one
another in the guts, and Thainara digs punches to the midsection as
well until Brasil offers up a counter trip effort. Thainara stays
on her feet, backing off to land two punches and score a third up
top as Brasil shells up. Brasil gets enough space to hammer
Thainara in the stomach with a spinning back kick, and Thainara
plods ever forward swinging fists to set up a takedown. Brasil
thumps her in the body as the takedown comes, but Thainara pushes
through it and hits the ground to go after a can opener once again.
Thainara elbows the head and body with either arm, methodically
attacking any target she can find. Thainara controls her opponent
by gripping the back of her head, framing off with an elbow at the
right moment when the strike is wide open. Thainara postures up and
rains down punches, and Brasil kicks her off. Thainara attempts to
leap back down and takes an upkick to the side, but she is able to
land back down on top and grind out the round.

Round 3

Thainara is the one to strike first with a kick in the final round,
and she slips when tossing another. She bounces right back up
before Brasil can do anything, and Brasil waits for her to be fully
upright so she can kick Thainara in the side of the head. Thainara
tackles her down after absorbing the blow, and the Seattle crowd is
booing the moment the ladies go horizontal. Brasil considers
maintaining butterfly hooks in hopes of pushing Thainara off of
her, so Thainara pursues her can opener attack. Brasil shakes her
head out of it and looks to her corner for advice, which presumably
shout at her that she needs to stand up. Wombacher calls for more
action, and Brasil turns to her side and fights to her feet while
Thainara clubs her in the face. Brasil has her back to the wall, so
Thainara digs knees to the body to stay busy and maintain her
controlling posture.

Brasil pushes her foe off and adjusts her top, and Thainara greets
her with a one-two and a calf kick that partially turns Brasil
around. Brasil kicks back, but Thainara is far more active and
aggressive, popping Brasil in the face with two overhand rights.
Brasil swings herself off-balance and misses the mark with it, and
Thainara charges after her and opens up with punches. A confused
Brasil tries to strike back, but this only allows for Thainara to
complete a double-leg takedown and deposit Brasil to her back once
more. Brasil’s butterfly hooks fail, thanks in part to Thainara’s
can opener that is grueling and mean but not the type of maneuver
that will likely merit a tap. Thainara punches a few times and is
pushed back to her feet, where she allows Brasil to stand back up
with 40 seconds to go. Brasil thanks her for this by blasting her
in the neck and the bottom of her chin with a spinning back kick,
and a rocked Thainara desperately grips Brasil from behind to
gather her thoughts. Thainara hangs on, eyes wide, and she ends the
match with a few punches. She falls to her stomach in celebration
of likely avenging her lone career defeat.

Round 1

It has been somewhat rough sledding for these two bantamweights on
deck, as they have combined for three victories across their last
eight appearances. Simon (22-7, 10-6 UFC) has fared the slightly
better of the two, winner of two of his last three but coming off a
decision defeat to the resurgent Raoni Barcelos. Texas-based foe
Yanez (17-6, 6-3 UFC) has only gotten his hand raised once in his
last four encounters, and this will his first walk to the cage
since the end of 2024. Referee Blake Grice draws the charge for
this second matchup of the evening, stepping back as the athletes
rush towards one another without a glove touch in sight.

They peel back right before engaging, with Simon ducking and
dipping to throw Yanez off his game early. Yanez lands a low kick
first, and he defends against the overhand right coming back at
him. Simon digs a kick to the stomach, and he is chased back by the
Texan’s punches. Simon inches his way forward, stutter-stepping and
using awkward movement. Yanez’ boxing is crisp so far, as he
catches Simon with a slick uppercut and a few more punches before
Simon can get his bearings. Simon flicks out a jab, attacks a low
kick and fakes a takedown. Yanez is well out of the way before
anything comes together, and he has his guard up to defend a head
kick flying at him. Yanez doubles up on a jab, and he tosses Simon
out of the way when Simon closes in to grapple.

Simon whiffs with a head kick and a spinning back fist, with Yanez
pecking at him with his jab to fluster him just enough. Yanez goes
upstairs with three punches, and he shoulder-rolls the return fire.
Yanez stands tall with a hard right hand that catches Simon flush,
and Simon has to blink it out before plodding forward again. They
fire off jabs at one another, and Simon rushes forward with a knee
but Yanez dodges it and wags his finger. Both fighters go with
double jabs, and Yanez rings him up with a right hand over the top.
He ducks down into a head kick to take some of the oomph out of it,
blocking it and surging forward with two lunging punches. The two
trade fierce hands, with Simon surprising his opponent with a hard
right hand that makes Yanez backpedal. Simon times a solid
uppercut, ending the round swinging for the bleachers.

Round 2

The bantamweights hurry towards one another to start off the round,
where they quickly trade hands to reintroduce themselves to one
another. Simon splits the guard with a front kick, and Yanez
parries the punches that come after it. Yanez cannot get out of the
way of a right hand, so he stands firm and slings back a heavy
right. Moving just enough to dodge the worst of what is aimed at
him, Yanez lets his hands go and catches Simon cleanly. Simon tanks
them all and switches stances to author up a high kick, and it
skims the shoulder. Simon sets up and bull-rushes his way forward
to complete a takedown, putting the Texan flat on his back with
Yanez closing his guard. Simon drives down two hard elbows to make
Yanez think twice about keeping him in the guard, so Yanez
scrambles wildly to get back to his feet and lean against the cage.
Simon wraps his arms around Yanez’ waist, and he knees Yanez in the
face as Yanez’ fingers are hooked in the fence. Simon lifts Yanez’
leg up to dump him to the mat, and Yanez appears discouraged.

Simon jams him to the body with a knee, and Yanez hurries his way
back upright. Simon keeps kneeing when he finds a modicum of space,
and he switches up to uppercut Yanez several times with his left
hand. Simon sells out for a takedown, dropping down to his knees in
a high-intensity effort. Yanez maintains his balance thanks in part
to the cage behind him, but it wavers a bit when Simon tags him
with a mean elbow on the break. Yanez backs away to reestablish his
jab, and he doubles up on it to catch Simon with a right hand.
Yanez mixes his jab up to aim to the body a few times, and he clubs
Simon on the sides of the dome with his fists. Simon returns fire
with a head kick that is blocked, and he leaps forward with a knee
only to be met with a powerful right hand that freezes him. Yanez
counters a lazy right hand with a speedy one-two, and he takes a
power jab that backs him off. Simon fakes for a takedown, and the
close round ends.

Round 3

Yanez races out of his corner, fired up by coach Sayif Saud, and he
quickly puts hands on his opponent. Yanez goes to the lead leg with
a kick that opens up two punches up top, with his speed the
difference-maker. The Texan connects with a powerful right hand
down the middle, and he strings two more behind it while Simon is
thinking about the previous blow. Simon throws back, but the volume
is slowly shifting in favor of Yanez. While he lands a pair of
punches, Simon blasts his foe in the cheek with a huge left hand.
Yanez is stunned but still has the wherewithal to fire back,
busting open a cut on the corner of Simon’s left eye that starts
pouring blood. Simon wipes his eye a few times after taking jabs to
the wound, with the crimson mask turning into a bullseye that Yanez
targets with impunity.

Simon loads up on power, catching Yanez again but not stopping him
for long. He attempts a flying knee, and Yanez slides to the side
and starts chattering to Simon. The crowd is on Simon’s side, who
walks into a huge right hand and is in a bad, bad way. Yanez cuts
Simon off but does not go for broke or open himself up for a
counter, measuring his shots and connecting flush on his foe. Simon
is not about to go quietly into this good night, and he loads up
and cracks Yanez again. Yanez is quick to reply with three crisp
punches, and he wipes his hands off and staves off a takedown shot.
Simon proves out with a power jab, and Yanez further bloodies him
up with his own offerings. The two are going tit-for-tat with
strong offense this far into the match, both having been caught
cleanly and still hellbent for leather. Yanez clips Simon with a
right hand at the end of a short combo, and he leans back as a huge
right hand soars past him. Yanez rocks Simon with a massive right
hand, and Simon drops to his knees barely still with it. Simon
sways and keeps his hands up while on his knees, and Yanez tries to
finish the job with a mighty flurry of fiery fists. Grice watches
on but does not intervene, and Simon’s face swells up like a
balloon from the onslaught of punches. The buzzer sounds, Grice
shoves Yanez off of Simon, and Simon stands but is out on his feet
looking to hug his likely victorious opponent and stay on his feet.
Cutwoman Swayze tends to the many wounds that have appeared on
Simon’s face, and he has to hang onto her shoulders so he does not
fall over. What a fight that turned out to be.

Round 1

While the two light heavyweights about to hit the stage came into
the promotion with high finish rates, neither man can seem to buy a
stoppage since getting here. Stirling (8-0, 3-0 UFC) has earned
three straight victories under the UFC banner, but they all came
after 15 minutes of combat apiece. Standing across the cage from
him will be Lopes (14-2, 1-1 UFC), who had only before gone to a
decision twice prior to beating Magomed Gadzhiyasulov in his
promotional debut last year—Dustin Jacoby punched him out a few
months later. The third man in the Octagon will be referee Keith
Peterson, who will keep nonsense to a minimum.

They do not touch gloves, as Stirling wants to start off with long,
reaching kicks. Lopes chambers his own leg kick that lands with an
audible thud, and he tries to offer another but does not put his
hips into it. Stirling cannot say the same, slamming his shin into
the Brazilian’s calf and welting it up already. They trade these
kicks until Stirling mixes up one upstairs, and Lopes is wise to it
and parries a jab that follows. They clash together with big
swings, with Lopes landing a right hand on the outside. Lopes keeps
working the lead leg, and he allows Stirling to come at him so he
can lob a counter. Stirling pops Lopes in the chops with a clean
left hand, and he pushes out a front kick that gets caught. When he
retrieves his leg, he boots Lopes in the face with the other. Lopes
catches that one too, and he tries to take the fight down. Stirling
retains his balance, so Lopes elbows him in the face.

Lopes chooses to disengage, and he shoots for a double that
Stirling sees coming. Stirling elbows him in the face to break off,
and he slings a right hand that is ducked in the nick of time.
Stirling bullies Lopes to the cage, finding him with his hard
swings including a powerful one-two. Lopes ties him up to stop from
getting punched in the face for a moment, and Stirling separates
and resets. Lopes tries a spinning back elbow when Stirling
advances, and he gets kicked in the guts and catches the kick.
Stirling springs away to not get taken down, and he lobs a pair of
right hands to the head and body. Lopes takes a left hand on the
chin before circling, and he catches another kick but lets it go
because he cannot do anything with it. Lopes tries to pursue a
double, and when that fails, he spins with an elbow and gets kicked
in the face. The horn sounds.

Round 2

Lopes strikes first to start off the round, and this results in
both men smacking one another around with calf kicks. Stirling
breaks the chain with one to the body, and he leans back as the
Brazilian loops a left hand at him. Lopes is out of range, slugging
at air while he takes body shots. Lopes counters a right hand up
top when Stirling goes for a step-in knee, and he attempts a
single-leg entry but lets the leg go and resets. Stirling advances,
and he walks face-first into a right hand. Stirling chews up the
front leg with his calf kicks, and he defends a single and leans
against the cage. Lopes wraps an elbow over the top, and he goes
for another and is kneed when they break up. As Lopes kicks the
leg, Stirling jabs the body, and they clash together. Lopes goes to
the well with a spin, but the elbow is out of range. Stirling
drives him back with body shots, and he rifles a right hand up top
that stings Lopes.

Lopes has to gather his thoughts as a left hand sets him down, and
when he gets to his knees, Stirling punishes him with elbows to
bowl him back over. Lopes sits up, and Stirling snatches up a
guillotine choke, but this only allows Lopes to stand. Stirling
knocks Lopes back down, and Lopes survives but is taking serious
punishment. Stirling unleashes a flurry of punches but cannot put
Lopes away, with Peterson watching on closely. Stirling holds on to
the back of Lopes’ right ankle while busting Lopes in the face with
his left hand, and he does not punch himself out but is slowly
while Lopes’ face is increasingly bloody.
Stirling falls into a high mount, and he beats on the Brazilian
with a nasty elbow and a prolonged barrage of punches and
hammerfists. An elbow from the Kiwi further slashes Lopes’ face
open, and blood sprays from the gash as Stirling drums the wounded
man out with a few more punches. Peterson has no choice but to step
in, with Lopes’ visage quickly transforming into that of a
horror movie. Not the artsy type either, but rather an 80s slasher
where there is more blood than sense. Stirling walks off and shrugs
to the camera as if he knew this was going to happen the whole
time, and he is now a perfect 9-0 while registering his first
stoppage as a UFC athlete.

Round 1

The crown of “King” O’Neill (10-2, 5-2 UFC) will need a bit of
polishing as she makes her first walk to the Octagon since August
2024. While she kicks the rust off, she will have to deal with the
surging Fernandes (11-3, 3-2 UFC), who has turned things around
since dropping her first two bouts in the UFC. Referee Mike Beltran
takes charge of the flyweights, authoritatively starting the clock
and watching on as the ladies touch ‘em up.

It does not take long for the two to come together and engage,
where they quickly throw a flurry of fists on either side to
establish themselves. O’Neill goes to the body and head,
pump-faking her hips and eventually firing off a low kick.
Fernandes quickly responds with a head kick that is blocked in
time, and she hops back from a one-two but cannot dodge the
follow-up punches. O’Neill has a few punches paw off the guard, and
her leg kick continues to find its home. The Brazilian goes for
another high kick but is still out of range. The Bangtao Muay Thai
representative keeps her guard up to defend Fernandes’ punches, but
this results in a fair amount of shadowboxing as they cannot quite
find their ranges. Fernandes leaps in with a Superwoman punch, and
O’Neill shakes it off and keeps kicking the front leg. O’Neill
targets punches to the body and head, and she gets countered and
backs off.

O’Neill digs a kick to the body, and Fernandes replies in kind.
O’Neill sets up a takedown effort with her punches, but she bails
on it and cracks the Brazilian with a right hand. Fernandes backs
off, in big trouble, and “King Casey” is not about to let her off
the hook.
In the blink of an eye, O’Neill unleashes a fury of punches, teeing
off on a damaged Fernandes and battering her against the wall.
Fernandes lights flicker on and off as fists keep meeting her face.
Fernandes’ knees buckle, and she topples over on the verge of
consciousness. That is all she wrote. Beltran waves things off and
pushes O’Neill away, who proceeds to scream several times that
she is back so loudly that people in the nosebleeds can likely hear
her victory cries.

Round 1

There is one heavyweight card on the billing, and it happens now.
At the tender age of 40, Polish all-around fighter Tybura (27-10,
14-9 UFC) has slowed to a degree, but wins in two of three suggest
he is still not out of it yet. He welcomes former Bellator big man
Fortune (17-3, 2 NC; 0-0 UFC) to the organization, who will have
one Lally brother of Arizona Combat Sports fame in his corner.
Keeping tabs on the action and hoping it will not end up in the
hands of the judges will be referee Herb Dean, who would prefer not
to be paid by the hour in this affair. The late replacement Fortune
offers a glove touch that is accepted by “Tybur,” and away they
go.

Fortune bounces lightly around on his heels while Tybura slowly
works his way towards him, and he parries a front kick. After
offering little offense, Fortune springs into action with a
textbook double-leg takedown that dumps Tybura on his back. The
newcomer starts jackhammering Tybura with his free right hand,
pounding on the veteran until Tybura turns to defend against the
strikes. Tybura gets to a knee while Fortune keeps clubbing him,
and Fortune leans on him to smother him and prevent him from
standing.

“Tybur” stands back up with the wall behind him, and he thwarts the
first mat return attempt. Fortune grinds on his opponent, with
Tybura framing off his face with an elbow that sets up a knee on
the chin of Fortune. The debutant ignores the boos to keep
squeezing Tybura against the cage, and Tybura slides another elbow
off his face and knees Fortune in the stomach twice. Tybura pushes
off Fortune’s face to break off. He lumbers forward slowly to offer
a labored one-two, and Fortune strikes him back with a right hand.
Tybura tosses up a kick that collides with the arm, and he swarms
forward with a trio of punches. Fortune’s right hand is countered
with a right up top, and he ends the round with a front kick.

Round 2

Tybura introduces himself again with kicks, and he wings a right
hand over the top as Fortune circles away. Fortune gathers a head
of steam to hurl two punches up top, and Tybura bounds off them and
keeps his push kick going. Tybura hits nothing but air with two
offered punches, with volume exceptionally low between the two as
they take turns slowly engaging. Tybura hurls a right hand and eats
a right on the jaw on the way in, and they clinch up with Tybura
scoring knees and a check hook to break off. Fortune scores another
hard right hand when Tybura is about to engage, and he ignores a
low kick but cannot avoid two front kicks. The second slides down
into the cup, and Dean calls time as the boos rain down. Fortune
only takes a couple seconds before saying he is good to go, and he
re-engages with a power right hand. The newcomer is well out of way
when Tybura strikes at him, and he beats “Tybur” to the punch with
flying fists.

Fortune’s overhand right scores practically any time Tybura
meanders forward to attack, as he appears to be giving a tell that
Fortune has picked up on. Tybura intercepts an advancing Fortune
with a chopping leg kick, and it takes the ACS fighter a moment to
get back up. Tybura slings a right hand and avoids the counter he
knows is coming. Fortune puts a right hand down the pipe when
Tybura kicks his lead leg, and he dances away from slow punches but
cannot evade the thumping calf kick. Fortune takes a flush body
kick after landing a jab, and he splits the guard with a fierce
two-punch flurry. Tybura keeps walking face-first into punches, and
he does not bat an eye and has to chase the fleet of foot Fortune
around until the round concludes.

Round 3

Fortune starts off the final round pushing for a takedown, and he
bullies the UFC vet against the cage but cannot get him down.
Tybura presses his hand of Fortune’s face to stop the attempt from
going anywhere, and he manages to break free. Tybura boxes his way
forward, but Fortune is too slick and does not absorb much. Tybura
crashes into him, and the two clinch up. Fortune digs punches to
the body until Tybura separates again, and it is the Polish fighter
who strikes with a front kick. Tybura pops Fortune in the chops
with a right hand, and he goes again to the body with a kick.
Fortune whiffs on an overhand right, and Tybura presses him to the
cage wall. Fortune turns him around with relative ease, and Tybura
strikes with a knee but gets elbows hard. Tybura frames off with
his elbow to get away.

The front kick of “Tybur” intercepts Fortune, who swings heavily at
him. Fortune connects with a one-two and is promptly driven back
with power punches back his direction. Tybura attacks aggressively,
and Fortune tackles him to the floor. Tybura stands, and he is
quickly mat returned. Tybura rushes to put his side to the cage
wall, and Fortune clubs him with right hands as Tybura stands up.
The two battle for underhooks, and Tybura thumps Fortune up with
short punches and knees. Tybura elbows his man in the face from up
close, and Fortune responds with knees to the stomach. Tybura
punches his way back into the clinch, and he tags Fortune with a
huge overhand right. Tybura goes headhunting, and Fortune strikes
the body. Tybura, who appears to be the fresher of the two, clubs
Fortune with a few punches, and Fortune gathers a head of steam and
swings back as they reach the final horn, exhausted and drenched in
sweat.

The initial scores are announced as 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 all in
favor of Tybura, and the crowd drowns out the building with boos.
There is some confusion, and Fortune angrily departs the cage with
his team as they believed he did enough. Bruce Buffer is called
back to the Octagon, where he apologizes and re-announces the
winner via unanimous decision as Fortune. Sometimes these things
happen in MMA.

Round 1

Getting a huge pop in the crowd as a native Washingtonian, Hooper
(16-4-1, 8-4 UFC) will serve as a fairly comfortable betting
favorite against Canadian counterpart and ex-Bellator athlete
Gibson Jr. (9-2, 0-1 UFC). The lightweights will collide with
referee Blake Grice standing by, and they do not bump fists before
getting things going.

Kicks from both sides fly from the athletes, with Hooker taking the
center of the cage. The younger man offers up a reaching punch
chain, and leg kicks are hurled at one another. Hooper fires off a
head kick, ducks an overhand right and shoots in for a takedown.
Gibson defends the takedown and hacks at Hooper with elbows while
hopping around on his other foot, and the two break off. Hooper
slows himself down and absorbs a few kicks, which prompts him to
throw two front kicks and a one-two that all miss the mark. Gibson
slips and rips a right hand to the ribs. Hooper sneaks a high kick
around the guard, and Gibson wears it well. Hooper tries a high
kick with the other foot, and Gibson shakes his head at him. The
crowd chants “Let’s go, Hooper,” who eventually tries for another
takedown. Gibson puts his back to the wall and frames off Hooper’s
face with an elbow, and he cracks the youngster with it.

Hooper is on baby deer legs on an icy pond, and he tries as best he
can to back off and gather his thoughts. Gibson chases him down and
punts him in the face with a soccer kick and another much higher,
and Hooper is somehow able to stay afloat and shoot for a takedown.
Gibson defends and busts “The Dream” in the face with a trio of
destructive knees, and when Hooper hits the floor, Grice is on top
of the action. In trying to stop the fight, Grice inadvertently
tumbles over the fighters, who get the message that the match is
over. Hooper does not protest, and Gibson’s left eye begins to
swell up massively. It does not matter to him, as he just got his
first UFC win, and did so by knockout to earn himself at least
$25,000 more than he initially expected to take home today. He is
overcome with emotion, saying that he accomplished his dreams by
fighting and prevailing 10 minutes away from where he was born. The
audience, initially upset because they did not know he was born
stateside, changes their tune and rains down raucous cheers for the
victorious Gibson.

Round 1

Stepping up on late notice, Bahamondes (17-6, 6-3 UFC) will be
replacing Sameul Sanches and becomes the significant favorite
against 2019 Rizin tourney winner Musayev (22-6, 0-1 UFC). Both
lightweights prefer the knockout of all finishing methods, so
referee Bobby Wombacher will be on guard for as long as this one
lasts. Gloves are touched before they are traded.

The longer Bahamondes keeps to the center of the cage, watching a
low kick go past him so he can offer back a body kick. When
Bahamondes kicks low, Musayev responds with a hard punch.
Bahamondes rattles off a long one-two that shakes up the
Azerbaijani, who slams his shin into the ribs. Bahamondes lands his
own body kick, and Musayev catches it and tries to slug him in the
chops but is out of range. The two feint and fake at one another,
taking turns to engage, but it is Bahamondes who breaks up a
pattern of inactivity with a body kick. Bahamondes just misses with
a head kick, with Musayev seeing it coming and swaying back just
enough. Musayev lets fly a right hand that blows the hair back but
does not connect, and he absorbs a side kick to the stomach.
Bahamondes chips at the front leg and goes high with the second
effort, with Musayev wise to the strikes aimed upstairs.

Musayev swings wildly and knocks out the air around him, and
Bahamondes wades forward and absorbs a right hand. Musayev pushes
forward to tie him up and go for a trip or body lock takedown, and
the lanky Chilean keeps himself on his feet. Musayev dings him with
an elbow, and Bahamondes breaks free with a knee to the stomach.
Bahamondes uses a knee shield to block a body kick, and he slams
his shin into the midsection. Musayev swings for the fences but is
mere inches away from his intended target. Bahamondes chains two
kicks into a spin kick, and Musayev springs away from the worst and
hammers the front calf with a kick. Musayev tries to brawl it out,
and this opens him up to get caught on the way out. Bahamondes
scores cleanly with a pair of punches, and he staves off a caught
kick to a trip and also dodges two big punches aimed at his scalp.
Musayev sells out for a takedown, and when Bahamondes defends with
a guillotine, he falls to his back. Musayev establishes top
position, and the horn sounds.

Round 2

Bahamondes immediately presses the action, and he rushes Musayev
and jacks him in the jaw with a fierce right hand. Bahamondes beats
down on Musayev, and he grabs Musayev and lifts him up to slam him
down, only for Musayev to illegally grab and hold onto the fence
with both hands to stop the slam effort. Bahamondes lights Musayev
up a little more, and he jumps guard with a guillotine choke when
Musayev tries for a desperation takedown. Musayev pops out of the
choke and slashes the Chilean with a vicious elbow that slashes
Bahamondes wide open. Bahamondes snatches up an armbar off his
back, and Musayev leans back to pull himself out of it as a
veritable pool of blood forms below Bahamondes’ head. Musayev rains
down hammerfists on a bloodied Bahamondes, who sways and moves to
defend some of the strikes but cannot avoid all of them. The blood
from Bahamondes allows Musayev to slide out from a second armbar
effort.

Bahamondes sets up a triangle choke when the armbar is not there,
and he nearly rolls himself over but is put on his back again.
Musayev drops himself down and clearly headbutts his opponent in
the face, causing more blood to flow. Rules don’t matter if they
aren’t called, and Wombacher is failing Bahamondes in a major way.
Bahamondes attacks with elbows from his back, and Musayev blasts
him in the face with a nasty right hand that shakes Bahamondes up
again. Musayev keeps attacking with ground-and-pound, and
Bahamondes defends by trying for a leglock. Bahamondes lets it go
and turns from side to side, and he tries to lock the Azerbaijani
down and survive the round. The damage is so severe, blood drips
down from Bahamondes head, but he doesn’t mind. Bahamondes makes to
the bell, and he stands back up to get to his corner and treated by
the cutperson.
