The inevitable with Auburn basketball and its quest for an NCAA Tournament bid has officially come.

The latest Bracketology from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi was released Monday, and Auburn has moved from the “last four in” category to “first four out.” The move comes after Auburn basketball’s loss to Ole Miss on Saturday, a team that lost 10 straight games entering Saturday’s contest and was a Quad 3 opportunity on Auburn’s schedule.

Auburn is 5-11 against Quad 1 competition this season, and has one more opportunity to improve that record on Saturday on the road at No. 18 Alabama, which checks in at No. 16 in the latest NET ranking. If Auburn wins Saturday, it would be the second-best win of the season for the Tigers. Its best, of course, being a road win at Florida, which clinched a share of the SEC regular season crown last Saturday and is No. 4 in the NET. Auburn has played games against No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Arizona, No. 7 Houston, and No. 9 Purdue, but all games resulted in losses.

Auburn’s next opportunity to better its resume comes Tuesday at home against LSU. The visiting Tigers are No. 70 in the latest NET rankings, which is a Quad 2 opportunity for Auburn.
