For all intents and purposes, the NFL usually likes to have the Super Bowl in a place that at least has fall-like weather in early February. Under that description, San Francisco certainly qualifies.

Well, the San Francisco area, I should say.

Super Bowl 60 is taking place in Santa Clara, California, where the San Francisco 49ers have played all of their home games since the start of the 2014 season. It is the second time the Santa Clara stadium has hosted a Super Bowl, with the first being the Denver Broncos‘ victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 about a decade ago. The city of Santa Clara is roughly 40 miles south of San Francisco.

As for future locations, we already know which places will host the next two ensuing Super Bowls.

In 2027, Super Bowl 61 will take place in Inglewood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles and the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. It has been open since the start of the 2020 season. It notably played host to the Rams’ victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56 in 2022. In 2028, Super Bowl 62 will take place in the Atlanta Falcons’ stadium, which has been open since 2017. It will be the Atlanta stadium’s second Super Bowl, following Super Bowl 53 in 2019, which featured the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.

As for host cities beyond that timeline? Well, we’ll probably learn about the next one or two sometime during the NFL’s annual league meetings this coming May.
