The world’s most famous arena is not playing around.
On Friday, Madison Square Garden played host to official weigh ins for the Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson boxing card, which goes down later tonight (Sat., Jan. 31, 2026) in New York City. It was supposed to be an entertaining event for fight fans in preparation for one of the best boxing matchups to start 2026, but things quickly took a turn for the worse.
Not only did a skirmish break out between Team Lopez and Team Stevenson, but WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney and his father, Bill Haney, were also involved in brawls, both on MSG’s floor and the hallway in the back. It was chaos to say the least and a very bad look for all involved, including MSG’s Theatre and event security as a whole.
Following the incidents, a representative reached out to MMAmania on behalf of the MSG Family of companies and revealed that anyone involved in the brawls could be “banned for life.” The New York State Athletic Commission may end up dishing out some suspensions as well, but MSG is already staying out ahead of the situation.
Check it out below:
“Violence will not be condoned at MSG across any type of event including, hockey, basketball, boxing, concerts, or special events,” read the statement. “If any individual is found to participate in violent activity, whether you are part of the event, or a patron, you will be banned for life and unable to attend or participate in any event across all our venues.”
