On Day 2 of the Senior Bowl, a potential position of need for the Indianapolis Colts this offseason had several standout performers.

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus put together his standout performers from Wednesday’s Senior Bowl practice, and included were four linebackers.

During GM Chris Ballard’s end of season press conference, while not mentioning the linebacker position specifically, he discussed the need to get younger and faster on defense. That would seem to apply directly to the linebacker position.

Along with that, given the current state of the roster, added depth and, ideally, experience would be quite beneficial.

Jacob Rodriguez, Texas Tech

Rodriguez was one of PFF’s highest-graded run defenders at the linebacker position. He was also very good in coverage, generating four interceptions and three pass breakups. Rodriguez also forced seven fumbles.

“That knack for forcing turnovers was alive and well on Day 2, as he recorded a forced fumble and an interception – many defenders are lucky to even get one of those through the whole week,” wrote Sikkema.

Bryce Boettcher, Oregon

A reliable tackler throughout his career, which helped Boettcher limit pass catchers to only 6.0 yards per reception in 2025. He also logged an interception and three pass breakups.

Owen Heinecke, Oklahoma

A good run defender, who also generated 15 quarterback pressures and four sacks as a blitzer this past season. Heinecke had one pass breakup in coverage, but he did have a higher missed tackle rate.

Xavian Sorey, Arkansas

Sorey created 23 quarterback pressures in 2025. Compared to the other linebackers on this list, he wasn’t as productive as a run defender or in coverage.
