Former Iowa football DB chooses UConn as transfer portal landing spot

As Iowa football continues to navigate transfer portal additions and subtractions, former Hawkeye cornerback CJ Bell announced his commitment to UConn.

Bell was a three-star signee in Iowa’s 2025 class, holding offers from programs such as Rutgers, Boston College, Notre Dame, and Penn State. Despite Rutgers making a heavy push to flip Bell, he signed with the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an early enrollee.

Unfortunately for the 6-foot-1, 186-pounder from Mansfield, Mass., he made only one appearance for Iowa in 2025. That came during the Hawkeyes’ 20-15 loss to Indiana on Sept. 27, where he recorded no stats. Bell ended up redshirting before announcing his transfer portal entry in early January.

Bell hopes to take advantage of a wide-open cornerback room with the Huskies next fall, with all four years of eligibility remaining.
